Heinz leverages advanced sourcing technologies from CombineNet to obtain immediate value and sustainable financial results across multiple transportation modes

PITTSBURGH, PA — May 4, 2009

CombineNet, the leading provider of advanced sourcing and optimization technologies, announced today that the H. J. Heinz Company, one of the world’s leading marketers and producers of healthy and convenient foods, has expanded its use of CombineNet’s Transportation Sourcing Solutions to source its Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) spend. Since 2003, Heinz has used CombineNet’s advanced sourcing and optimization technologies to source multiple modes of transportation. The ability to leverage network-wide shipment volumes to reduce costs and increase carrier efficiencies has led Heinz to expand its use of CombineNet’s technologies to include its LTL transportation.

CombineNet's sourcing solutions enable us to find the optimal balance of cost, service and carrier relationships by conducting large, consolidated transportation sourcing events," said Wayne Skinner, Heinz Vice President of Transportation. "By expanding our use of CombineNet to include our LTL freight, we can drive additional cost savings and long term value into Heinz through a larger part of our logistics operations."

Delivered via CombineNet's Advanced Sourcing Application Platform (ASAP), CombineNet’s Sourcing Solutions combine strategic planning, category-specific best practices, unique Expressive Bidding® capabilities, and industry leading optimization technologies that enable unlimited “what if?” scenario analysis. These solutions enable companies to find the absolute best sourcing solutions for many strategic spend categories, including transportation, direct materials, packaging, and other items that have a direct impact on a company’s cost of goods sold (COGS).

Heinz is a valued customer and we are extremely pleased with the confidence they have in us and our technology," said Tony Bonidy, CEO of CombineNet. "Our Sourcing Solutions create enterprise-wide value and drive unprecedented efficiency and innovation to supply chains worldwide, and we look forward to continuing our role in helping Heinz with its strategic sourcing activities."
